Tonight was a small group. I’ve been on Mondays when it was packed and half filled, but tonight we were only seven people. It was nice. It was thoughtful. It was quiet. The model was super very helpful. And it was nice to just enjoy the quiet.

I've always wanted to try joining a figure drawing session, and I'm so glad my first experiences were with Drawing New York. The atmosphere at these sessions is so comfortable, friendly and welcoming, I felt right at home from the start. Even as a shy introvert, I've never felt out of place - both Simon and Jeff truly understand the art of creating a space that is neither excluding nor pressuring, but just the right amount of calm yet open and joking, and it was easy to come out of my shell. During my short four weeks in NYC, I couldn't help but join 5 sessions, and they are some of my fondest memories. Every session had its own unique model, and I feel like I learned so much simply by participating and challenging myself - it was just the right space for it. Before my first session I was worried what and who to expect, but I felt right at home and I truly believe what their website says: "All levels are welcome"! And it surely helps that the sessions are located at one of the most gorgeous and most inspiring buildings I've visited in the entire city - a nice bonus for sure!
I'd give a hundred stars if I could. I hope I can come back and join again one day 🙂

I attended the instructed drawing course on Thursday night with Simon. This was possibly the best way to spend a Thursday night. The class ranged from a complete beginner to some who have drawn off and on for years. Simon has the perfect demeanor for teaching art—he’s encouraging but straight forward. I learned a lot about drawing in the two hours I spent there, and I enjoyed myself for every minute of it. It’s a beautiful setting and a light and meditative class. I can’t wait to go back.

Love the session so much! The male model was extremely professional and the atmosphere is relaxing. The drawing session is located in a beautiful historical building near union square, you start wanting to draw the moment entering the lobby.
Will definitely do this again and hoping to join one of the long pose session in the future.

Simon is a charismatic, encouraging, very helpful teacher, the Drawing NY models are always top notch, and for some reason only cool people come to these classes (I'm not cool, but it's cool to be a dork surrounded by cool artists haha.)

This is a magical NY experience that I highly recommend for both artists and beginners. The instructor was highly trained, inspiring, and a real pleasure to talk to (Simon Levenson). The location is gorgeous at the historic National Arts Club by Gramercy park. Time flew, everyone was super supportive and I will definitely be coming back.
