I was a student at Ashcan for about 3 years, and much of my skills have been strengthened immensely here. I've been able to win many national art contests with works/pieces that I've developed here, and the teachers have been such a help for my college portfolio process. The environment is great because it allows us to be studious and social. Ashcan has been such a tremendous help to my artistic mindset. Thank you for giving me such valuable memories over all these years!

I’ve been a student at Ashcan and the space and environment here helped me develop my technical skills, helped me to be more critical about the art making process, and made me more excited about making artwork all while making new friends & having fun! I learned many things from all of the teachers (they are so amazing & caring) and they have helped me start and complete my portfolio to get into college. If not for Ashcan, I am not sure if I would have gotten into the schools that I have wanted to go to and/or be where I am today. I am so thankful for the experience~

Ashcan is seriously the best place you can go to if you plan to pursue something in art. I did my whole portfolio here and I learned so much. I grew so so sooo much as an artist and person. You will have to work a lot, but the teachers here are always going to guide you and help you along the way. I also had fun and made so many friends here. I couldn’t even imagine getting into Carnegie Mellon school of Design and RISD with my grades and no SAT/ACT, but I got in both!!!!! (thanks to Ashcan) I also got in NYU, Parsons, SVA, Pratt, MICA, and so on, with amazing scholarships!! Ashcan also helped me with my essays, which was so so helpful. Overall, you HAVE to go here if you’re serious about art. It’s 100% worth your time and money. Coming here was the best decision I ever made. Thank you so much for everything and I miss you guys!! :,,)

I've attended Ashcan for about a year in high school. The staff there were able to help me prepare an outstanding portfolio for college, which I sent to Columbia University and was accepted early decision. The environment at Ashcan fosters great young talent and gives good directional advice to those who are preparing to go to art schools or majoring in the arts.

I attended Ashcan sporadically throughout middle school and for the entirety of my junior year in high school to prepare a supplemental art portfolio. The teachers that I worked with were always very patient and kind; every project idea that I came up with, no matter how intricate, was completed to fruition through their support. <3

Where do I even begin? I’m a senior ready to run off to my dream college, thanks to the help of Ashcan. I cannot stress how helpful and experienced these teachers are—each and every one of them. The program they offer is rigorous and structured, a real test of what your full potential looks like. They will guide you to think in the right direction and bolster the ideas you bring to the table. You’re never alone while brainstorming. The talented and ambitious students around you will become your best buddies, there is no one that understands your troubles and roadblocks better than your peers here. And there is always a teacher who you could lean on.

Truthfully, it goes without saying you will lose some things committing to such a rigorous schedule. It's definitely not for everyone. But I have yet to regret any of the time I’ve spent in my designated seat by my friends, making art, spending the summer together, crying together, laughing together--in the end, what i've earned from being at Ashcan was getting an acceptance letter to Cornell, amazing friends, and my art that I am proud of.
