The instructors for the classes and the workshops are phenomenal and I learn something new all the time! The studio also features a small gallery where visitors can purchase handcrafted pottery created by the instructors and other local artists- great for gifts.

I’ve been to a few clay studios in northern Virginia and this is by far the best.the owners are the kindest, most genuine people, that only have the interest of the community at heart. The members of the studio are always eager and willing to share their knowledge with each other and to answer questions if they can. Hand building class is good for people that are familiar with hand building wheel throwing classes produce pots that look amazing. The instructors are very patient. It’s a wonderful place

I've been a member of CIY Pottery since they opened in 2023, and I can't recommend it enough. The studio offers a range of ongoing classes and workshops that are competitively priced, making it accessible for anyone interested in exploring the world of ceramics. They even offer workshops for non-ceramic arts, such as basket weaving.

One of the highlights for me are their seasonal workshops, which offer fun, themed projects like creating ceramic pumpkins for the fall. These workshops are perfect for beginners wanting to try out ceramics or for experienced artists looking to learn new skills and techniques.

The overall vibe is friendly and light-hearted. Everyone, from the staff to fellow members, is always happy to share their techniques and tips. The studio itself is large, well-lit, and always kept clean. They have a great selection of supplies available for purchase, including tools, glazes, and transfers, which is incredibly convenient. You can even buy finished pieces from the talented studio staff if you're looking for inspiration or a unique gift.

CIY is a wonderful pottery studio full of creative and talented teachers, staff, and members. They have wheel and handbuilding classes and workshops perfect for beginners through advanced ceramic artists. The gallery has beautiful pieces for sale and is open to the public.

OMG ~ talk about the friendliest and most creative environment in town! From the creative artwork by different people, the welcoming environment, the friendly people who all want to support and learn from one another, CIY is a home away from home for all. It's clean and well stocked with usable supplies and items to purchase if needed (extra clay, tools...). Not only do they offer classes, but workshops so you can try out different types of art and creative methods. I recently took a class on altering clay bodies which I had limited experience with. Loved learning something new that took me out of my comfort zone in the most supportive environment ever. See my pics below of my altered cylinders shaped into ceramic 'paper bags'. Still a work in progress but I love them. So blessed to be part of this community, come join!
